Grading Weekend, 27th and 28th September

Another great grading weekend all wrapped up again! As usual it’s always a busy weekend as I attend both the Glasgow and Ayrshire grading’s to support all of my students from the Irvine Valley (Galston), Stewarton, Dunlop and Rutherglen clubs.  It’s always great seeing all of the different clubs come together once every 3 months to show the high quality student’s that our instructors are producing.

Glasgow Grading

Glasgow Grading, all the students lined up before Master Paul Donnelly, 8th Degree Master arrives..

Both grading’s are kicked off (no pun intended) with asking all the students questions applicable to their current and/or previous grades, then it’s straight on to the practical element of the grading. You have to demonstrate that you are ready to progress to the next level by doing a series of movements set by the grading examiner, this will include:

[li_item icon=”” iconcolor=”#009e17″ circle=”” circlecolor=””]Line Work[/li_item]
[li_item icon=”” iconcolor=”#009e17″ circle=”” circlecolor=””]Patterns (Tul)[/li_item]
[li_item icon=”” iconcolor=”#009e17″ circle=”” circlecolor=””]3 Step Sparring[/li_item]

[li_item icon=”” iconcolor=”#009e17″ circle=”” circlecolor=””]2 Step Sparing[/li_item]
[li_item icon=”” iconcolor=”#009e17″ circle=”” circlecolor=””]1 Step Sparring[/li_item]
[li_item icon=”” iconcolor=”#009e17″ circle=”” circlecolor=””]Free Sparring (normally non contact)[/li_item]

Not all grades have to cover all of these practical elements, it’s all dependent on which grade you are.  For a white belt you will cover the basics, Questions, Line Work and Patterns.  If you are a red belt going for black stripe you will cover ALL elements of the grading.

I’m going to announce the people from the grading that passed with an A grade, this is not easy to achieve which is why I am mentioning their names as I do believe they need recognition for this.  So, well done to the following students and keep up the fantastic work and effort that you have put into your training:

Special Announcement to our NEW BLACK STRIPES

I can’t forget to mention our new black stripes in the form of Sam Speirs and Max Burns who passed their final coloured belt grading.  It was a fantastic effort from both of them and a very well deserved pat on the back for the work that they have put in the past 6 months.  The grading was the toughest one by far and they both stood up and gave it 100% all the way through, their confidence and determination was faultless.  Well done!!!
